April 30th

*The absolute last day for the students to use the sewing machines/equipment during class AND after school is May 8th! After this day, the students will be moving into the foods room and learning about taking care of their clothing and studying for their state skills test.*

Students learned how to make blind hems using their sewing machine and their blind hem foot. They started this sample today and it will be due tomorrow (Friday) at the end of class. The fabric and elastic for their pajama pants is due tomorrow as well.

April 29th

Today was the last day students had in class to work on their tie/purse projects. If they did not finish, they will need to arrange a time with me to come in after school to use the sewing lab/equipment.

April 28th

Students were reminded that their fabric and elastic is due for their Pajama bottoms on Friday, May 1st! We will be starting to cut them out on Monday, May 4th. Students continued to work on their tie/purse project. These will be due tomorrow (Wednesday, April 29th). Those who were still unprepared with their fabric and/or interfacing for this project were given two different studies guides to use to start studying for their state skills test (class final) to earn participation points for today.

April 21st

Students started on their purse and tie project today. Most students worked on pinning on their patterns and cutting out their fabric today. They will be working on these the rest of the week, and most of next week. Students who were not prepared with their project supplies were told to finish any other assignment, sample or project that they have not yet completed, since mid-terms are on Friday of this week.

April 20th

Students' fabric and interfacing for their next project (tie/purse) was due today. Students finished putting their material and interfacing together for their sample today. They were then shown how to make buttonholes and how to sew on buttons using the sewing machines. The students then had the rest of class time to work on this sample. This will be due tomorrow at the end of class.

April 17th

Students learned about the importance and functions of buttons using a powerpoint and visuals. They also prepared their fabric and interfacing for their sample tomorrow on creating buttonholes and sewing on buttons using the sewing machine.

April 16th

Students were given the entire class time to work on and finish the patch pocket samples. After they finished, they were given the rest of class time to read about common sewing machine and serger malfunctions.

Monday, April 6, 2009

April 15th

Students learned how to read and use the information contained on the front and back of a pattern envelope. This was done in class, so the students kept the information they learned in their binder.

April 14th

Students watched a video on how to measure different parts of the body to figure out their sizes in common patterns. We also did a demonstration, then students partnered up with a friend to take their measurements and find out their sizes in preparation for making their pajama bottoms.

April 8th

Students started working on their patch-pocket sample. They learned how to miter corners and reinforce the tops of pockets to take more stress. Students will finish these tomorrow and should turn them in by the end of class on Thursday, April 16th.

April 7th

Students continued to work on their facing samples today. We worked on sewing the sample together, clipping the inward curve, and understitching. Students will be given part of class tomorrow to finish these before we move on to patch pockets. Also, Interfacing and fabric for their tie/purse project is due April 20th for 25 points.

April 6th

At the start of class today, they were shown examples of different types of interfacing and we discussed what they are used for. They were then given time to cut out the pattern, fabric and interfacing for their facing sample we will be working on tomorrow.

April 3rd

There was no class today (Friday) because of the talent show assembly.

April 2nd

The students were given the rest of the class period to finish and turn in their pillow. If they did not finish, they can come in after school on Tuesday of next week to finish.

Students were given all of class today to work on their pillows. These will be due tomorrow (Thursday).
