March 30th

New hall passes and late passes were given to the students for this new term. Students were given points for having their supplies for their pillows or partial points for being partially prepared last Thursday. It is now the responsibility of the students to write a note and place it in the basket with a late passes when they bring the rest of their supplies so that I can add the points to Skyward. I explained how to complete their pillow and some of the most common mistakes or parts of the project that students overlook or skip that will take points from their grade by reading through the rubric with the class. The students were then given the rest of class to start and work on their pillows.

March 23rd

Today was the last day students were given in class to work on their fleece hats. Most students finished and moved on to creating fleece scarves or extra hats for extra credit. Students who did not finish were those who were not prepared with their fabric and missed class time to work on their projects. Pillow fabric and stuffing is due on Thursday, March 26th.

We continued to work on our fleece hats. Many students finished their first hat and made a second hat also.

Students continued to work on their fleece hats. Today was also the last day for students to turn in any late/missing work and any extra credit, such as unused hall passes and late passes. The students have been reminded about this deadline every day for the past two weeks. They were also reminded that their pillow fabric and stuffing is due for their next project on Thursday, March 26th. This will be the first assignment on next terms grade.

March 18th

Today we started fleece hats. Students had a variety of hats to choose from: ski hat, infant beanie, multi-colored beanie, etc. Each student measured their own head to make sure the hat they will make fits them correctly. By combining all of the techniques we've learned so far, students should be able to make a very nice looking winter hat! They were also reminded that tomorrow is the last day to turn in any late/missing/absent work as well as any extra credit, which includes any unused hall or late passes they still have.

March 17th

Students were taught how to sew, clip and iron inward and outward seams. This last sample will be due tomorrow. We will also be starting our fleece hats tomorrow. Students were given points for having their fleece fabric here today. If they did not have it, it is now the students responsibility to turn in a piece of paper stating that they now have their fabric and they need to attach a late pass to it to earn full credit. Without the late pass, it will be 25-50% off, depending on when they bring it or let me know they have brought it.

March 16th

The students had a sub today and they were supposed to watch a video on how clothing is made. Nothing was due for points.

The students played jeopardy to review the different types of seam finishes and equipment used for pressing.

March 12th

We continued working on our four seam finish samples: zigzag, pinked and stitched, clean finish, and serge. These were due at the end of class. I also reminded them of the upcoming deadline on missing work and extra credit which is Thursday, March 19th. They also need a 1/2 yard of fleece next Tuesday, March 17th. They were told about this a week ago.

March 11th

Students were taught and walked through the process of using four of the most common seam finishes to prevent fraying of the fabric edges on their projects. Students started work on a sample demonstrating clean-finished, serged, stitched and pinked and zig-zagged finishes. They will finish this sample tomorrow.

Due to student vandalism in the lab yesterday while students were working around the classroom, the students had a book assignment today and will have until whoever caused the vandalism is caught. Today, we read as a class lesson 5 in the book (page 465-471) and answered questions 11-13 on page 479 on the use and care of sergers instead of working with the sergers.
