January 31st

Students took a pre-test on how many different pieces of sewing equipment they could recognize. We then went through and identified each one and what it is used for. We also discussed the six different categories of equipment and they were given a word search with twenty different pieces of equipment to find. This will be due tomorrow.

January 30th

Students discussed and looked at different types of thread and the purposes of each. They should now be more knowledgeable when choosing the types of thread they would like to use for their projects.

January 29th

Students learned about the three ways fabrics are produced and were given samples of each of the three fabrics. Students also started a sample on grainlines in which they had to label the different parts of fabric and had to pin on a small pattern correctly by pinning it on with the grainline parallel to the selvage and lengthwise grain. Some students turned it in today, but this will be due at the end of class tomorrow.

January 28th

Students learned about the different parts of a piece of fabric (lengthwise grain, crosswise grain, selvage, bias, etc.) and worked on identifying each of these areas on their yard of sample fabric. Students had a note taking guide, which we used for notes and they were asked to place it in their binder for future reference.

January 25th

Students earned about fibers, the difference between natural, synthetic and blended fabrics and the properties of each. They were also shown samples of each of the different fibers. Students have a $5.00 lab fee and the fabric for their first project (tissue box) due on Friday, February 1st.

January 24th

Students took a short pre-test on different sewing terms and skills. We also talked about various places, with advantages and disadvantages, to find supplies for their projects. At the end of class, the students answered questions about their likes and turned it in for me to get to know them better.

January 23rd

Students were shown each of the sewing projects we will work on throughout the semester and were given a letter for their parents/guardians which contains a list of the needed supplies for their projects. They also put together a binder to keep all of their samples, notes, etc. to help them study for their state skills test at the end of the semester. Students also picked up their supplies (Ziplock bag, 1 yard of fabric, thread and empty bobbin) to use for their samples.

January 22nd

Welcome to the new semester! Students reviewed the class disclosure and policies, as well as the content of the course. They have a $5.00 lab fee, payable to the office, due on Friday, February 1st for 50 points. Any student on a fee waiver needs to talk to me sometime before this deadline.

January 17th

Students were given their final grades and citizenship. Students were also given time to look their grade over carefully for any mistakes I made have made or computer errors.

January 16th

Students cleaned the sewing lab and their cabinets. All of their personal materials and supplies must be taken home today or tomorrow. Students will receive their final grades tomorrow.

January 15th

Students learned how to wash and care for their clothing. The steps/process was discussed. Students also learned about the dry cleaning process.

January 14th

Students continued to work on their web quest on stain removal up in the computer lab. The answers were due at the end of class today and are worth 95 points! Students who were absent have until Thursday to finish working on this in order to get the points put on their grade before the end of the semester.

January 11th

Students worked in the computer lab today learning about stain removal techniques. they will have today and monday to work on this and will be due monday at the end of class. Today was the last day to turn in pajama pants, missing/late assignments from the past two weeks, extra credit, projects, etc.

January 10th

Students have all of class today to work on any missing/late assignments and finish their pajama bottoms, which are due at the end of class. It is also their last day working with the sewing equipment. All extra credit, projects, assignments, etc are due tomorrow (Friday).

January 9th

Students took the Clothing 1 State skills test, which is thee final for the class. The were given the whole class period, plus more time if needed to take this. The tests will be sent to the State office of education for scoring and results should be returned by the last day of class, which is next Thursday. Any student who was absent has until Friday afternoon to come in and take the test.

January 8th

Students were given today to study for the Clothing state skills test which students will take tomorrow. This is the second day they were given to study, as well as two different study guides.

January 7th

Students continued working on their pajama pants. Most worked on finishing their waistband elastic and hemming the bottom of the pant legs. These are due by the end of class on Thursday, but the students will only have Thursday to work on them after today.

January 4th

Students Continued to work on their pajama pants today. Most students finished sewing both legs together, finishing the waist and forming the casing for their waistband/elastic. These will be due on Monday at the end of class. They will be studying for their state skills test on Tuesday and actually taking the test on Wednesday.

January 3rd

Students continued working on their pajama bottoms today. Most students finished cutting their pieces out, sewed and serged the inseams together and started on sewing and serging connecting the legs together. Students will have Friday and Monday to work on this project as well.

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

January 2nd

Students' fabric and elastic for their pajama pants was due today for 25 points. Students who were not prepared or were absent need to turn in a piece of paper stating if they have their elastic and fabric to earn their points. Students were then shown how to cut out their pajama pants and were given the rest of class time to pin and cut out their fabric.

There will be after school labs on an appointment only basis. Students who are not working during class will not be allowed to come in after school. Only students who use their class time to work will be allowed to come in for more help and time on the equipment.
